| After the death of her husband in 1801, Abiel moved her family to Smith Co., TN, where she bought a farm for herself and her sons to work. She was not a poor widow, since she made sure that each of her sons received 150 acres of land when they married and that her daughters received all the household items they needed when they married. When she died in 1810, she willed her unmarried children what they would have gotten if they had married. She named sons in her will as: Jonathan, David, Charles, Elijah, Daniel, and John. Her daughters were given as: Polly Crafford - her heirs, Jemimah Jenkins, Unice Swift, Catherine Fitzgerald, Abigal Pritchett, and Ann Austin. She also named granddaughters Nancy and Abigal Crafford. |
