| Jonathan moved his family from Smith Co., TN to White Co., IL about 1818. Jonathan was White County Commissioner in 1828, but by 1830, he had moved his family to what was then Fayette County. The area became Effingham County in 1831. By 1833 he had settled along the National Road. Jonathan was elected Judge in the first election in 1833, became Road Supervisor in 1834 and coroner in 1836. When the 1840 Census was taken, Jonathan was living in Effingham Co., IL. By 1850, when the Census was taken, Jonathan had given up farming to become an innkeeper along the National Road in Effingham Co., IL. |
