Abigail "Betsy" was the twin sister of Mary "Polly" who married Elijah Parkhurst, a brother of Betsy's husband Charles. Betsy was also a sister of Sarah "Sally" who married another Parkhurst brother, Jonathan.
Family tradition stated that Abigail had two sons who were buried in the South. It is possible there were two sons who could have died in infancy before the family moved to Illinois. Two other of Charles' sons were killed during the Civil War,
but Abigail was not their mother.
According to the "Old Log Church" written about the West Union Cem., in Carmi Twp., White Co., IL and the near by church, (which was written by "Betsy's" grandson, Charles B. Parkhurst) "Betsy" or Elizabeth was the first person laid to rest in this cemetery. No stone currently marks her grave. |
