In 1791, when Ursin was born, there was a Catholic chapel at Fort Manchac which served the Catholics living in that area.  Usine was baptised in that chapel.

Ursin participated in the Battle of New Orleans, Jan 8, 1815.  Served in Capt. M. Lambersont's Co. of Col. N. Mernam's 8th Louisiana Regiment, Hopkin's Brigade.

Ursin came to West Baton Rouge Parish sometime before 1820.
