| Zano's husband joined or was drafted into the Turkish Army sometime before WWI (most likely in 1908). How he died is unknown, but probably at the hands of the Turks. When the Young Turk government decided to solve the "Armenian question", all Armenian soldiers were disarmed in 1910 and put on labor details. Most of these men were systematically murdered by their Turkish commanders as a prelude to the genocide that would come in 1915. Of course, Turkey was in a series of wars early in the century when they lost most of their European holdings. It is possible that he died during one of these campaigns. |
