There seems to be some discrepencies in Fred's age in various records. The 1880 census of Black Hawk Co. has his age (as "Freddi Hardy") listed as 2, making him born about 1878. The 1895 state census has "Freddy Hardy" listed as being 14, born about 1881. The 1900 census has his birthdate as June of 1880. And in the censuses where he's head of household, he's listed as being born about 1884. By 1910, he must have picked an age and stuck with it. Because younger brother William is listed as bring born in 1880 and Fred is roughly 2 years younger than his brother Francis, he was most likely born in 1879.
