Orlan Kenneth Boyd Sr.
Orlan Kenneth Boyd, Sr., age 78, of Olathe, KS, passed away on April 20, 2004, at OIathe Good Samaritan Center from complications of cancer. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on April 24, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 3105 W. 135th St., Leawood, KS. Friends may call between 6-8 p.m. on April 23, at Charter Funerals, 10250 Shawnee Mission Parkway in Shawnee Mission, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Laborers for Christ, 1333 South Kirkwood Road, St. Louis, MO 63122. Mr. Boyd was born October 10, 1925, in Kansas City, MO. He was the son of Orlan K. Boyd and Irene Mae Manahan Boyd. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean War with honor and distinction. He married Elizabeth M. Deckert in 1943. He owned several of his own businesses and later was a representative for Aid Association for Lutherans, and with the Development Department for Concordia College, Seward, NE. He was a retired volunteer for Laborers for Christ. After a graciously brief struggle with bone and prostate cancer, he went home to be with his beloved wife, Elizabeth, and his Savior Jesus Christ. We rejoice in his entrance to Heaven. He went through life as we all do, knowing both joy and despair. He will long be remembered as a loving father, husband, soldier and friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bettie, his parents, and brothers, Francis Leibst, John Boyd and Thomas Boyd. Survivors include Orlan Kenneth Boyd, Jr., and wife, Kathleen, Karin Boyd Schepmann and husband, Paul, many grandchildren and their spouses and four greatgranddaughters.
