| On 3 January 1847 in Cannon County, Tennessee, Robert Keen Stephens was attacked by Asa Smith. "The Grand Jurors for the State of Tennessee elected, empanneled, sworn & charged to inquire for the body of the County aforesaid present, that Asa Smith late of said County, yoeman, on the third day of January in the year eighteen hundred & forty seven, with force & arms in the County aforesaid in & upon one Robert K. Stephens, did make an assault him the said Robert K. Stephens, did then & there beat, abuse, & illtreat, to his great damage & against the peace & dignity of the State. Hugh L.
