George Smallwood (son of John) has slight mention in the Court Proceedings of Charles County in 1756 and 1757, indicating he was probably born earlier than 1736.  His father was born about 1705.  He is undoubtedly the same George Smallwood who bought land of James Loyd in Frederick Co., Va. on Sept. 3, 1764. (see excerpt of deed to follow) George lived in the section of Frederick Co. later set off into Berkeley County (1772) and still later into Jefferson County (1801).  The name of George's first wife is unknown. Secondly he married Ann Hart, widow of Thomas Hart, Jr.  They were married at the time of settlement of estate of Henry Lloyd, Huntington Co., Pa., in 1802, but date of this marriage is unknown.  Henry Lloyd was father of Ann Hart.  George and Ann were living apart at the time of her death.  From the Jefferson Co. deeds and Estate Account we find at least six children for George:
-Gabriel md Mary _____,
-Thomas md Elizabeth _______,
-Elizabeth md Michael Wysong 3-15-1826,
-Samuel md, Betsey Heney 12-28-1815,
-Nancy md Samuel Strain 7-31-1800.

DEEDS JEFFERSON COUNTY, WV
Deed Book 8 p. 415 Deed of Gift George Smallwood [Smallwood book, p. 54]
My late wife was the widow of Thomas Hart, deceased, who at the time of her death lived apart from me and had in her possession a negro woman called Dinah and her four children, which negroes perhaps by law now belong to me as I do not wish to be concerned with the same I am desirous that they descend and go to such of Ann's children as if she had been a single woman at the time of her death, said Ann's child was married to John Daniels who married one of Ann's children.  Now all my right is conveyed in said Dinah.   George Smallwood
