 Picture of Paul in his sailor uniform, shortly before leaving for the war.  He would never return home.
 
Paul joined the US Navy during World War II.  He served as a seaman second class (boatswain's mate) aboard the troop ship USS "Hugh L. Scott".  While off the coast of Fedhala, French Morocco, North Africa, on November 12, 1942, the "Hugh L. Scott" was hit on the starboard side by a topedo fired from the German submarine U-130 and sunk.   Paul was among the 51 men and 8 officers killed.  His date of death is officially stated as November 13, 1943.

Paul was one of my namesakes.  The other was my mom's Uncle Paul (her beloved Keri).
