In the 1850 census of Union Twp, Johnson Co., IN, Robert, 28, was living with wife Leuticia, 28, and children Abigail, 8, Elizabeth, 6, Matilda J., 3, and Sarah A, 1.  He was a farmer with $800 in real estate.  He and his wife were born in KY, his children in IN. When the 1860 Census was taken, Robert owned real estate valued at $4,450 and personal property valued at $13,000. Robert brought a wagon train of 18 families from Johnson Co., IN to Independence, Montgomery Co., KS in 1869. When the 1870 Census was taken, "R. S." owned personal property valued at $700. When the 1880 Census was taken, Robert was living in Independence Twp., Montgomery Co., KS. When the 1900 Census was taken, Robert was living in Independence, Montgomery Co., KS. Robert succumbed to cancer after much suffering. At the time of his death, he was a businessman.
