 Introduction

Creoles, Cajuns, and Isleños Louisiana.  Just the name congers images seeped in history and legend.   The misty bayous of the Mississippi River, the antebellum sugarcane plantations of Baton Rouge, the rich cuisine and lively culture of the Cajuns, and everywhere the mark of the French and the Spanish of old.

My family’s roots in Louisiana go back almost to the very founding of New Orleans, back to France and Old Acadia, back to Spain and the harsh rocky shores of the Canary Islands.   All of this rich heritage was passed to me through one lady:  my grandmother, Aimee Landry Bonnet. Aimee Landry Bonnet

My grandmother was born in New Orleans in 1896.  She came from a long line of French and Spanish Creoles, Acadian refugees, and Canary Island Isleños settlers dating back to the 1600’s.  As such, this Family History is broken down into three sections:  The Acadians, The Creoles, and The Isleños.  Each will describe the history and people that make up my Louisiana roots.
